CRKD launches Atom Plus portable gamepad with TMR sticks

CRKD will ship the Atom Plus gamepad by the end of June for $30, delivering motion control and TMR joystick precision in a controller that fits in the palm of your hand. The compact gamepad follows the company's 2024 release of the original Atom, adding enhanced features while maintaining an ultra-portable form factor.

The Atom Plus integrates TMR sticks, full haptic feedback, and gyroscope-based motion control. TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) sticks represent an alternative to traditional potentiometer-based joysticks, offering improved precision and drift resistance. The controller includes all standard controls, including four triggers, making it compatible with Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2, as CRKD suggests.

The controller connects via Bluetooth to Switch consoles, smartphones, tablets, and other devices. Users can customize button mapping and sensitivity through CRKD's proprietary mobile app, allowing quick profile changes for different game types. The gamepad charges via USB-C, though the company has not yet disclosed battery life specifications.

Four colorways will be available at launch, each priced at $30. The Atom Plus undercuts the typical $60 price point of premium controllers like the Switch Pro controller while offering motion control and precision TMR sticks. This competitive pricing positions the Atom Plus as an accessible option for budget-conscious gamers seeking portable, full-featured controllers.

The June launch will reveal whether the Atom Plus delivers on its promise of premium features at a budget price point. Key questions for early adopters include real-world battery performance, long-term durability of the TMR sticks under heavy use, and ergonomic comfort during extended gaming sessions despite the compact size.
