OneUI 9 early build appears on Galaxy S26 before OneUI 8.5

SamMobile obtained access to an early test build of OneUI 9 for Samsung's Galaxy S26 series. The build reveals only minor interface refinements rather than a major redesign, signaling Samsung's focus on incremental polish over a visual overhaul.

The firmware is based on Android 17 but displays Android 16 in its update menu—a discrepancy typical of early development builds. Notable changes include larger brightness and volume sliders in the quick panel and a relocated parental-controls section within settings.

Samsung has not yet released OneUI 8.5, making it unlikely that OneUI 9 will arrive anytime soon. Since this is one of the first available builds, the absence of significant new features is unsurprising and indicates the software is still in early development.

  • The incremental adjustments mean no sweeping visual changes are expected in the near term.
  • OneUI 9 will likely arrive only after OneUI 8.5 completes its rollout cycle.
  • The expanded sliders suggest Samsung is refining accessibility and usability in the quick panel.

Monitor Samsung's official announcements to track when OneUI 8.5 and subsequently OneUI 9 reach U.S. Galaxy devices.
