Apple's iOS 27 Wallet update is here. Use it to ditch physical cards and split bills faster

Apple unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 on June 8, expanding the Wallet app from simple payment storage into an active tool for managing daily errands. The update introduces several features designed to reduce the friction of physical transactions and manual calculations.

The new release enhances loyalty cards and memberships with a pass style called Poster Generic, featuring detailed background images and tiles that surface relevant information at a glance. Passes can now display up to two featured actions below the pass face, offering quick access to membership benefits or special offers without opening the full card.

One of the most practical changes is the ability to create custom passes by scanning physical cards. With the new Siri mode in the Camera app, users can point their iPhone at a barcode on a loyalty or membership card to save it directly to Wallet. Apple Wallet now supports four new barcode formats: EAN-13, Code 39, Codabar, and Interleaved 2 of 5.

For users in the U.S., iOS 27 introduces bill splitting using Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence. The feature works within the Wallet and Messages apps, or via the Camera app's Siri mode. When you point your iPhone at a receipt, the system identifies relevant items and calculates the total payment, including the correct share of tax and tip. The order tracking feature is also expanding from the U.S. and U.K. to Australia and Canada.

iOS 27 supports enhanced Apple Wallet digital keys at participating hotels and resorts, allowing users to view trip details, receive updates about booked activities, and access services during their stay. Apple has not yet shared which hotel brands or locations will offer these upgraded keys.

iOS 27 is currently in developer beta. The new Poster Generic pass style and barcode formats require iOS 27, and Apple recommends developers include fallbacks for users still on iOS 26 or earlier.
