Apple has given AirPods owners a gift in iOS 27: a completely redesigned settings menu that finally makes it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. If you've ever felt frustrated scrolling endlessly through your AirPods settings trying to adjust one small option, those days are about to end.
Released in the first iOS 27 developer beta on Monday, the new settings interface organizes all of Apple's accumulated AirPods features into a clean, intuitive layout. You'll still access it the same way—by connecting your AirPods to your iPhone—but the experience is dramatically improved.
What's New and Why It Matters
Apple has consolidated the previously scattered options into focused menu sections, each with its own icon for quick identification:
- Accessibility – all your hearing and usability features in one place
- Audio & Routing – control where and how your sound flows
- Hearing Health – manage volume limits and hearing protection
- Controls & Gestures – customize how you interact with your AirPods
- Battery – monitor power levels at a glance
- Privacy – manage your data and permissions
- Find My – locate lost earbuds quickly
Apple has also added a convenient volume slider right under the Listening Mode toggles, putting frequently-adjusted controls within easy reach.
The Bigger Picture: Less Friction, More Control
This redesign addresses a real pain point. Over the years, Apple has steadily added features like Adaptive Audio, Call Controls, Camera Control, and Live Translation to AirPods. While each addition expanded what your earbuds could do, finding these features became increasingly tedious. The new compact design eliminates endless scrolling and puts every option exactly where you'd expect it.
The same thoughtful redesign is also coming to macOS 27 Golden Gate, ensuring a consistent experience whether you're adjusting settings on your iPhone or Mac.
When You Can Try It
Apple plans to release a public beta version of iOS 27 and macOS 27 next month, giving everyday users a chance to experience the new interface before the official release this fall. If you use AirPods with your iPhone or Mac, you'll soon be able to customize your audio experience faster and with far less frustration—exactly the kind of quality-of-life improvement that makes daily technology use more pleasant.
