Android 17 beta adds Notification Rules. New rules let users silence, block, or highlight alerts; Samsung eyes One UI 9

Android 17 beta adds Notification Rules

Google’s Android 17 beta adds Notification Rules, a built‑in system that automates push handling. Users can set custom scenarios—silence, block, bundle, highlight, or alert—for specific apps or contacts, removing the need for third‑party tools like BuzzKill. The feature will debut in a QPR update, and Samsung is planning One UI 9 support for U.S. devices, offering tighter alert control.

Android 17 beta adds Notification Rules for automatic notification management.

Users can set flexible scenarios that silence, block, silence and bundle, highlight, or highlight and alert notifications for chosen apps or contacts, effectively replacing third party tools like BuzzKill.

Available actions include:

• Silence
• Block
• Silence and Bundle
• Highlight
• Highlight and Alert

The feature won't ship with the initial Android 17 release. It's slated for a later quarterly update. Samsung is already planning integration in the upcoming One UI 9 build.

U.S. users can expect tighter control over alerts, cutting down unwanted interruptions while keeping important messages front and center.
